The Deerfield girls lacrosse team played tough against a strong St. Mark’s opponent in their opening contest on Rowland Turf. The first quarter of the game belonged to the Big Green as they came out firing and tallied the first 4 goals of the matchup. In classic lacrosse fashion, momentum swings were shared between the two squads for the remainder of the game, and swapped leads rarely exceeding 2 goals in either direction. In the last 6 minutes, however, St. Mark’s was able to capture several consecutive draw possessions that resulted in points on the board, and this final surge of momentum produced their victory. Despite the day’s outcome, the Big Green showed a great deal of composure, heart, and hustle. They are showing great signs of a maturity and cohesive team unity that promises great things to come this season. The Captains awarded our Team Player of the Game award to Libby Wenners for her leadership, positivity, and excellent in the defensive end.
