Two Pitchers Team Up As Deerfield Academy JV Shuts Out Avon Old Farms
Deerfield Academy JV defeated Avon Old Farms 12-0 on Saturday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. An early lead helped propel Deerfield to victory. The Big Green scored on a fielder’s choice by Will Shuhda and a double by Matthew Gardner in the first inning.
The team scored six runs in the third inning. The big inning was driven by a home run by John Sawyers, a single by Gardner, a stolen base , and a single by Levi Constant.
Constant earned the win. He went three innings, allowing zero runs, two hits, striking out five, and walking zero.
The Big Green collected 13 hits. Gardner, Sameer Sharma, Sawyers, Constant, Alex Smith, and Jerod Harrington each collected multiple hits for Deerfield. Harrington, Smith, Constant, Sawyers, Sharma, and Gardner all had two hits to lead the Big Green.
