Win 5-3
The Deerfield Academy baseball team opens its regular season this week on Wednesday, April 5th vs. Loomis Chaffee at Headmaster’s Field. The squad has its first conference game scheduled for Saturday, April 8th against Cushing Academy. Last Thursday, March 30th, the Big Green took on Pope Francis High School in a scrimmage game. Deerfield came out on top 5-3. Pope Francis was a Massachusetts Elite 8 team in 2016 and returns considerable talent. The Deerfield team is progressing well. Against Pope Francis, the Big Green used seven different pitchers in single inning outings. Dylan Presnal, Jared Pantalony, Colman Shea, Henry Gustavson, and David Thomas all had good outings. Cameron Snow and Presnal had multiple hits for Deerfield. The infield of Javy Irizarry, Chris Camelio, and John Esposito played well defensively. The Big Green look to take momentum into the regular season.
