The JV girls’ squash team suffered a heart-breaking 4-3 loss at Exeter on Saturday. Playing quite short-handed, the team put in a valiant effort against a talented Exeter team. First up for the squad were Cassie Deshong ’17 and Lily Louis ’18 at #1 and #3. Both facing tough opponents, they fell in three and four games, respectively. With her team in a 2-0 hole, Audrey McManemin ’17 was next on court at the #2 slot. After splitting the first four games, Audrey found herself down three match points at 10-7 in the fifth. With her back against the wall, Audrey showed tremendous grit, winning five points in a row to secure the game, 12-10, and earning her team’s first point of the day. With the team on the board, Adeliza Grace ’18 soon followed with a 3-0 victory at #5, tying up the team score at 2-2. Playing several spots up in the #7 position, Cameron Heard ’19 got out to an early lead against her opponent. Unfortunately, her Exeter foe proved too strong, gutting out a 3-1 victory. Not to be deterred, Maya Hart ’18 quickly evened things back up with a clean 3-0 victory at #4. With the match tied at 3-3, it all came down to Lilley Salmon ‘18 at #6. Lilley got out to a strong 2-1 lead; however, her opponent stormed back, winning the last two games and handing the Big Green their first loss of the season. In exhibition play, Olivia Jones ’18 and Sophia Centola ’18 both faced strong competition, each being stretched to five games. Sophia put a good fight, falling 12-10 in the fifth, while Olivia came back from 2-1 to secure a victory. With the defeat, the team’s record now stands at 9-1. With the season finale against Choate coming up on Wednesday, the team hopes to end the season on a positive note.
