The JV girls’ squash team hosted Williston’s varsity team in an exciting match right before Long Winter Weekend. Playing a varsity team for the first time this year, the girls were unsure of what to expect. Carolina Conzelman ’18, Jacqueline Minor ’17, Lilley Salmon 18’, and Christina Li ’20 were up first at the #2, 4, 6, and 7 spots respectively. Jacqueline and Christina earned quick 3-0 victories to get the team on the board. Carolina played similarly well at #2, securing a 3-1 win. Lilley had a back-and-forth match, coming back from being down 9-4 in the fifth game to win 11-9. With those four victories, the girls had clinched the match, and the rest of the ladder could play with no pressure. Afterwards, Cassie Deshong faced a tough opponent at #1, falling 3-0. Audrey McManemin ’17, Maya Hart ’18, Cameron Heard ’19, and Olivia Jones ’18 all earned quick wins at #3, 5, 8, and 9 respectively. Sophia Centola ’18 had a great battle at #10, defeating Williston’s #7 athlete 3-1. Once again, Deerfield’s depth proved to be an important factor in the match, and with the 6-1 victory, the team now stands at 8-0 on the season.
