Everyone’s favorite thirds squash team faced off against Andover and Choate on the penultimate Saturday of the season. Riding a four-match winning streak, the fellas were relaxed and eager to keep the good times rolling. A handful of still-unexplained no-shows forced us to restructure our lineup, but we chose to see it as an opportunity rather than an inconvenience.
I’ll let the linescores do most of the talking, but to summarize: despite giving up ten games to Choate, our top seven didn’t drop a match. Arthur set a team record with a 115-point win, and Kaminsky and Kelly also came through in style (their fifth games slightly less dramatic). Smitty was in rare form, dropping a bagel in the third before roaring back to take a close fourth, while Elliot played the second-longest game of the year (going up 10-4, then saving two game points before finally taking it). All the excitement made Matthew and Justin’s wins look routine by comparison, but in reality they were anything but. While the exhibition crew took a few lumps, Johnny’s win at #8 was our most decisive victory of the day.
After Andover and Choate played, we sent out our top five against the shorthanded Big Blue. Arthur again went the distance, coming up just short, and Justin saw an early lead slip away, but we were carried by our other three, who dropped only one game between them.
Thanks to the Flaggs for the donuts and support today – our record is now an impressive 11-3. While we won’t catch boys’ JV hockey’s 14 (and counting) wins, and we’ve been shown up by girls’ squash (a combined 27-1 record across three teams), we remain among the most successful winter sports. We close out the season against Williston next weekend.
