Deerfield Hockey hit the road early this afternoon to take on a good Hotchkiss squad. A viewing of “Remember the Titans” on the bus got everyone fired up to compete, and the Big Green took control of the game from the get-go, scoring three goals in the first period. Mae Emerson ’19 opened the scoring, converting a beautiful feed from Aurora Devereaux ’20 from behind the net. Ali Dougal ’18 doubled our lead, firing a shot home from the point off of a pass from Emerson. Then, in the final seconds, good work by Meghan Halloran ’17 down low got the puck to Mary Edmonds ’19, whose shot toward the goal deflected in off a Hotchkiss skate. Halloran added a power play goal in the second period (assist to Jenna Greenbaum ’17) to round out the scoring for the day. Though we were not at our best today, this team is finding ways to capitalize on scoring opportunities while forcing our opponents to settle for outside chances. Jordan Manning earned the shutout with 21 saves, with many of her best ones coming in a third period when we lacked our usual intensity. Special thanks to Mr. Emerson for his skate-sharpening help in between periods, and to the Williams family for going above and beyond to make sure that the team was fed following the game! Next up is a tough test against Williston at home on Wednesday.
