The girl’s JV hockey team travelled down to Windsor, CT on Saturday for their final game of the season against Loomis. The game started off very back and forth, and the Loomis players tested our defense early with a couple of end-to-end rushes. However, defenders Maggie Roche ’19, Tierney Roche ’18, and Cornelia Mackay ’18 held strong and Hannah Swinerton ’17 came up with some big saves. Deerfield took a penalty about halfway through the first period, but Meredith Heaney ’19 was able to score a short-handed goal to put the Big Green up 1-0. Deerfield added two more tallies in the first period from Annabel Gerber ’20 and Katie Whalen ’18. Deerfield continued to play strong offensively in the second and third periods, with Bailey Cheetham ’19, Margot Genereux ’17, Heaney, Whalen, and T. Roche all capitalizing on scoring opportunities. Despite two goals from Loomis, Deerfield earned an impressive 8-2 win over the Pelicans and finished off the season with a stellar 9-1-2 record. Go Big Green!
