In a fast-paced and back-and-forth affair on Friday night at Eaglebrook, Deerfield ultimately fell to a talented Nobles squad. The visitors’ speed kept us on our heels early on, and earned them two quick goals, but the Big Green struck back on the power play late in the period. Erin DeMarco ’19 possessed the puck well on the half wall and found Ali Dougal ’18 at the point. Her one-timer was stopped by the Nobles goalie, but Mae Emerson ’19 buried the rebound to get us within one. We tied the score in the second period, as a puck hit Aurora Devereaux ’20 battling hard in front of the net, and popped right out to Mary Edmonds ’19, who snapped a shot top corner. The rest of the game was played very evenly, with both teams earning good chances. In between period adjustments led to much stronger defensive zone coverage, but we learned the hard way that we can’t give good teams any extra room. Minor execution errors led to three more Nobles goals, and we ended up on the wrong side of a 5-2 final score. Still, this was a great effort in front of a raucous crowd, and we’ll look to build on this momentum heading into St. Paul’s on Wednesday. Many thanks to the Skillmans for the wraps, fruit, and chocolate milk after the game.
