Deerfield lost a hard-fought battle to Westminster on Wednesday. Despite testing the talented Westminster goaltender throughout the first period, the girls weren’t able to put one away until early on in the second when Tierney Roche ’18 scored off a pass from Katie Whalen ’18. Deerfield quickly followed that goal up with another one, as Bailey Cheetham ‘19 had a beautiful tip on Cornelia Mackay’s ’18 shot from the point. Westy never gave up though and scored three quick goals on DA within a five-minute stretch. Despite the team’s best efforts, DA wasn’t able to tie it up but felt good about their strong play in the first game of the season. Deerfield’s defenders (Tierney Roche ‘18, Maggie Roche ‘19, Cornelia Mackay ‘18, and Juliet Perry ’19) played exceptionally well and made some incredible defensive plays.
