Soccer, Girls: Reserve defeats Suffield

Event Details

The thirds squad pulled off a victory in their tightest game of the season so far against Suffield Academy’s JV team on Wednesday afternoon.

The first half saw offensive domination from Suffield, who took shot after shot on goal. Without the skill and determination of keeper Sydney Bluestein ’21, who played aggressively and shut down every attempt on net, the game would have been lost quickly. Deerfield could not get their energy up throughout the majority of the first half and allowed Suffield to dribble freely down the field. However, Kikka Giudici ’20 broke free and lined up a huge shot from outside the 18 to find the back of the net, ending the first half on a great note for Deerfield.

After a rousing halftime cheer, the Big Green got their energy up and put together a much better second half, pressuring the ball, shooting on Suffield’s net, and wearing down their opponents. With about twenty minutes left, Whitney Vogt ’20 fired off the deadly cross she’d been working on over the course of the season. Griffin Dewey ’20 was in the exact right place at the exact right time, got a foot on the ball, and gave Deerfield their second point. While Suffield would get the better of Deerfield’s defense, the Big Green had nothing be ashamed of as they walked off the field.
