On Wednesday, November 1st, the boys junior B soccer team traveled to the Bement School for a rematch with their varsity squad. Deerfield prevailed 4-1 in the match earlier in the season and was looking for a season sweep against their neighbors. The cold, wet afternoon made it difficult for the keepers to handle the ball, thus a high-scoring affair. Deerfield found the back of the net first, after an uneventful opening 15 minutes, with an Ethan Chen ’20 goal in the 16th minute. Three minutes later, Rob Sawyers ’21 scored for Deerfield to grab a 2-0 lead. Just when it seemed like Deerfield was going to run away with the match, Bement cut their deficit to 1 with a goal in the 23rd minute. After trailing 2-1 at half time, Bement tied the match with an early goal in the 2nd half, in the 40th minute. The match was tight for the next 10 minutes, before Sam Laur ’20 gave the lead back to Deerfield with a goal in the 49th minute. Chen’s second goal in the 54th minute gave Deerfield some breathing room and a goal by Willy Conzelman in the 66th minute finished the scoring at 5-2. With the win, Deerfield is now 8-1 and will wrap up the season against Cushing Academy at home on November 8th at 3 pm.
