Boys Jr. A Soccer faced an improved Loomis Chaffee squad for the second time this season, and walked away with a hard fought but clean 2 – 0 victory. Deerfield struck quickly, moving and possessing the ball in the LC half. A Loomis goal kick led to a direct strike from forward Andy Han ’19, who rifled the ball towards the net, the LC keeper just barely tapping it away with outstretched fingers. Loomis came back with renewed energy, but were rebuffed by the strong play of midfielders Colin Olson ’19 and Merrit Wurts ’21. On a corner kick, Olson sent a beautiful cross right to the top of the box and Han buried it this time in the center of net past the keeper to make it 1 – 0. Connor Guest ’20 continued to push for Deerfield, almost scoring on two separate through-balls. After some back and forth play, Wurts fired a long, arcing shot from a good 10 yards outside the goalie box, deflecting off the top crossbar and into the net for the final goal of the game at 2 – 0. After the half, Deerfield continued to dominate possession and shots on goal, although none found their mark. Thomas Gilmore ’20 held the backline, and Jason Liu ’18 had several shots close to adding to the DA lead. The boys held on for the duration of the game to seal the win at 2 – 0.
