The JV Volleyball team traveled to St. Paul’s feeling confident about the day ahead.
The first set started strong with Deerfield scoring a quick three in a row. However, St. Paul’s answered back with six points. From that point forward, we were never able to get ourselves back in the game. Despite great hitting efforts by Caleigh Manguilli that kept the game within reach, St. Paul’s eventually broke away and won the first set 25-16.
The second set had Deerfield scoring first and up four to start. With a strong performance by Tess Mannix and some fierce returns by Julia Ferrante the set eventually tied at 20-20. However, the positive momentum halted and the set ended with a loss of 25-20.
Our best set of the match, was the third and optional set, which resulted in a win of 25-21. We were able to dig deep and pull off a win. Emma Weech served 9 times with only two returns and Claire Cummings was able to block three hits to keep us in the lead.
The Deerfield girls walked away from the match disappointed, but knowing that they can win and will look to do so when we travel to NMH on Wednesday.
