On an unseasonably humid and muggy day in early October, the Deerfield Girls Varsity Soccer team traveled to Concord, New Hampshire to face the Big Red of St. Paul’s. After a great week of practice, Deerfield was poised and ready to play. From the opening whistle, the Big Green came out strong. Fighting for every 50/50, hustling to every ball and communicating all over the field, the girls put in a great effort on the day.
Despite the even score line, the girls played a complete 80 minute game, bringing energy and enthusiasm for the entirety. The defense had a great showing on the day, halting numerous St. Paul’s offensive chances and earning their first shut out of the season. Junior goalkeeper Valerie Hetherington ’19, had an exceptional game, coming off her line on multiple occasions to clear the ball.
While the team didn’t get the win, it was a big step forward as we did many great things. We worked hard, encouraged each other, created chances and held strong defensively.
Deerfield will look to continue to build momentum when the team returns home for a 2:30pm game against NMH on Wednesday.
