On a beautiful fall day in Deerfield, Massachusetts, the Girls Varsity Soccer Team took the field against a strong Worcester team. In the early minutes of the first half, Worcester jumped out to a quick three goal lead off three nicely timed shots. Despite some Deerfield offensive chances, Worcester was able to put in another goal off of a corner kick to make the score 4-0 with ten minutes left in the first half. As time was winding down at the end of the half, Deerfield was finally able to get on the scoreboard from a successfully converted penalty kick by senior forward, Brenna Hoar ’18, making the score 4-1 heading into half.
After regrouping at halftime, Deerfield came out a completely different team. Despite being down by three goals, DA never gave up. Their energy was higher in the second half and the team defense was strong all over the field. The offense created some chances but the Worcester goalie was able to keep the ball out of the net. Late in the game, Worcester capitalized on two breakaways making the final score 6-1.
A special shout out goes to junior goalkeeper, Erin DeMarco ’19, who saw her first game action of the season in the second half of the game. In the half, she made numerous great saves, came off her line to grab served in crosses and commanded the box with great communication.
Deerfield Girls Varsity Soccer will look to rebound on Saturday for Fall Family Weekend as they take on Taft at home at 3:00pm.
