On a beautiful day in early October, the Deerfield Girls Varsity Soccer team traveled down to Easthampton to face the Williston Northampton School. From the get-go, Williston came out strong with copious amounts of energy both on the field and from the bench. This energy led to a Williston goal in the opening minutes of the game. Down 1-0, Deerfield regained some composure and started to play our game.
After halftime, the Deerfield girls came out stronger in the second half and pushed hard to get the equalizer. Despite numerous chances in the last ten minutes of the game, the Williston defense held strong and Deerfield could not find the back of the net. When the final whistle blew, Williston was victorious 1-0.
Notable performances include junior goalkeeper Valerie Hetherington ’19 who made some exceptional saves to keep us in the game and junior forward Emma Reavis ’19 who ran hard the entire game and brought a contagious energy to the team.
Deerfield will look to bounce back from this loss on Saturday when they travel to Concord, New Hampshire to face a good St. Paul’s team.
