Soccer, Girls: Reserve defeats Westminster

Event Details

Despite the absence of leading scorer Kikka Giudici ’20 over Family Weekend — in fact, so many players were gone that Deerfield numbered just 9 players — the thirds team put together a resounding 7-0 victory over Westminster to add a fifth victory to their record and some spring to their step. In the 8-v-8 game on Saturday, the thirds team worked hard and came away with a great win!

Griffin Dewey ’20 led the goal-a-palooza with six points, often dribbling through the entirety of the Westminster team to take merciless point-blank shots on goal. Whitney Vogt ’20 fired shot after shot, just missing the goal on countless occasions, and setting Dewey up for a few crosses, until she finally got her well-deserved point in the second half. Sabrina Ticer-Wurr ’21played hard at forward and midfield as well to contribute to Deerfield’s impressive offense. In the midfield, Grace Knight ’20 was indomitable once again, reliably feeding the ball to Vogt and making great use of the wing, while Izzy Ortiz ’18 used her formidable footwork to keep the ball out of Westminster’s reach. On defense, Trish Boonpongmanee ’20, Taylor Coan ’20, and Annabelle Mauri ’18 made sure that Sydney Bluestein ’21 was lonely down in the Deerfield net (though Bluestein made several saves throughout the game).

The team will face Andover on Sunday and Bement on Monday as they head into the final stretch of the season.
