On Wednesday, October 25th, the boys junior B soccer team hosted Suffield Academy for a rematch on the lower fields, after winning the first match 5-0 back on September 29th. Suffield started off quickly, with a flurry of shots in the first few minutes – all of which were turned away by keeper Willy Conzelman ’21. After Deerfield finally broke the ice in the 11th minute with a Gerald Xu ’21 goal, the floodgates opened. The first goal was followed quickly by an Ethan Chen ’20 goal in the 13th minute, a Sam Laur ’20 goal in the 16th minute, and a Nic Labadan ’18 goal in the 21st minute, for a 4-0 Deerfield advantage. Suffield pulled one back in the 27th minute to cut the deficit to 3, but it was quickly followed by another goal by Laur in the 31st minute and another goal by Xu in the 35th minute for a 6-1 Deerfield lead at half time. Comparatively, the second half was quiet, with Suffield netting a beautiful bar-down goal in the 38th minute to cut the lead to 4 and the first goal of the season from Herman Bikoko ’21 in the 50th minute to provide the final 7-2 margin. The match against Andover scheduled for October 29th was cancelled, so the team will be back in action on November 1st, on the road for a rematch against the Bement School.
