Boys Jr. A Soccer won a decisive 4-0 victory at Suffield Academy today. DA took a quick 1-0 lead at the start of the match. Merritt Wurts ’21 sent a strong cross to Eric Wang ’21, who headed the ball past the outstretched hands of the Suffield keeper. The pace of the game was slow, as Deerfield maintained possession the majority of the game with careful and deliberate ball movement. The Suffield striker beat two DA defenders, and sent a shot sailing off the crossbar in SA’s closest attempt of the game. Jared Faux ’20, Phil Weymouth ’18, and Connor Guest ’20 all had solid tries on goal in the first half before Guest and Andy Han ’18 connected to put Deerfield up 2-0. Weymouth’s third opportunity of the game rebounded off the goalie, but Faux follow-up strike gave DA a 3-0 lead before the end of the half. After play resumed, Deerfield continued to dominate possession, and most of the match was played in the Suffield half of the field. Throughout the game, James Whiteley ’20, Seth Blain ’20, and Alex Strait ’20 fended off each Suffield advance. Not more than five minutes later, Noah Jung ’19 passed a ball through multiple Suffield defenders to Faux, who scored his second goal of the game to put the Big Green up 4-0. DA continued to control possession of the ball for the remainder of the game.
