The Deerfield defense came up with two huge touchdowns to seal a 42-7 win against Worcester Academy. With the score 14-7 and Worcester on the move for the game tying touchdown, LB Bayard DeMallie jarred the ball loose from the Worcester QB and LB Bennett Stankovits picked it up and went 75 yards for the touchdown to make the score 21-7. On the following possession, FS Sam Dwinell intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it for a 100 yard touchdown to put Deerfield ahead 28-7. RB Keegan McHugh and RB Griffin Schutz added the final two touchdowns runs of the game for Deerfield en route to their highest scoring output of the season.
The first half of the game was dominated by Deerfield. For the second week in a row the Deerfield front 7, led by NG Jackson McCarty, DE Niko Kvietkus, and DE Garrett Alexander held Worcester to very little on offense. FS Cortland Dicks intercepted the first pass of his career at the end of the first half and CB Inho Choi had his 2nd interception of the season. In total, Deerfield had 3 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. Offensively, Jack Bill ran for 2 TDs in the first half. The first coming on a 3 yard dive into the end zone and the second on Jack recovering a fumble from McHugh on the goal line and advancing it into the endzone.
Deerfield plays on the road for the final time next Saturday against Loomis.
