Field Hockey: Varsity defeats Taft

Event Details

In front of many parents, siblings, and friends Deerfield field hockey played Taft on Rowland turf on a beautiful (summer-like) parents day this year.  It was an exciting game, played out till the very end of the second half.  The game was played on both sides of the field with a lot of back and forth through the first half.   At the half the score was still 0 – 0 on the scoreboard.  While Deerfield had many offensive corners they were not able to capitalize.  Liv was also able to stop some fast left-wing breakaways by a couple of Taft players and was steady and quick in the goal. Both teams stepped up their intensity during the second half, and within three minutes, Mimi was able to capitalize on a ball that Maggie had brought down the wing, thus putting away Deerfield’s first goal.  Only thirteen minutes later Maggie scored the second goal, a great tip off a pass from Talbot.  With just eight minutes remaining Taft scored a beautiful goal on a breakaway shot that was deflected perfectly into the corner of the net.  While Taft made an attempt to tie the game within the last minute (in a series of 5 corners), Deerfield’s defense was unrelenting and held the score to 2 -1.  A great win for the girls in green.  Next up, Worcester Academy on Wednesday.
