The JV girls¹ squash team had their first match of the new year against Westminster this Saturday. In their first match in exactly a month, the team was understandably rusty at times, but still managed to pull out an impressive 6-1 victory.
At the top of the ladder, Carolina Conzelman ’18 faced a tough opponent, starting slowly in the first game, but battling in the second and third before ultimately falling 3-0. Below her, Adeliza Grace ’18, Cassie Deshong ’17, Lily Louis ’18, Audrey McManemin ’17, Maya Hart ’18, and Christina Li ’20 proved too strong for their opponents, all winning in three or four games to sweep #2-7. Olivia Jones ’18 had the match of the day at the #9 position. After falling behind 2-0, Olivia saved several match points in the third game, ultimately winning that 13-11. She used that momentum to mount a comeback, winning her match 11-9 in the fifth. Lilley Salmon ’18 had a similarly close match at #8, falling in five close games.
Elsewhere, Cameron Heard ’19 and Sophia Centola ’18 showcased the depth at the bottom of the ladder, each winning two matches. Looking forward, these two teams meet for a rematch next Saturday, this time on Deerfield’s home courts.
