Girls Varsity Hockey lost a tough game at home this afternoon against a fast and physical team from NMH. We had the better of the play in the first period, and opened the scoring after Brenna Hoar ’18 did a nice job getting the puck out of the zone before Mary Edmonds ’19 found Meghan Halloran ’17 streaking down the ice. Halloran walked right around her defender, and calmly slipped the puck past the NMH goalie. The second period was a different story, however, as Deerfield took its foot off of the gas pedal and allowed the visitors to score three straight goals. Edmonds was able to pull her team within one before the end of the frame, putting a Halloran rebound in the back of the net. Despite regaining the momentum in the third, and creating several good opportunities, we could not find the equalizer, and suffered a 3-2. Certainly a frustrating result, and we’ll look for greater consistency against Exeter on Saturday. Mae Emerson ’19, Ali Dougal ’18, and Erin DeMarco ’19 all had good games for the Big Green. Many thanks to the Lineberrys for the delicious spread of fruit, granola and yogurt after the game, and to the many parents who made the trek to campus on a Wednesday.
