The Girls Varsity team won their first game of the new year on the road at The Ethel Walker School on Wednesday, bringing their overall record to 4-3. Walker’s started the game in man to man defense, which DA easily handled, then switched to a 2-3 zone defense for the rest of the half. Deerfield went cold around the rim, and the half ended tied at 25. At halftime, Deerfield made adjustments to their zone offense and came out ready to take control of the game. DA took the lead early in the half and never looked back. Though Walker’s hit some exciting three-pointers to keep the DA lead under 10 points, the players stayed calm in the home stretch. Erika Ekhator dominated on the boards and hit two key inside shots to solidify the win at the end of the game. Megan Graves led the offense with 17 points, hitting from both behind the arc and on fast break layups. Felicia Renelus played outstanding defense and chipped in 11 points. Lily Fauver hit for 10 points around the rim, and shooting guard Erin Tudryn was clutch from the free throw line, especially in the final minutes. Tudryn hit 5-6 from the line for the game, and added a total of 10 points to the win. DA looks to continue their balanced scoring and aggressive defense as they host Worcester Academy on Saturday.
