The Deerfield Girls Varsity Basketball team enjoyed a well-earned win against Phillips Andover at home on Saturday in front of a robust crowd. The team slowly and steadily built a comfortable lead throughout the first half with tenacious defense, aggressive rebounding, and selfless team play. In the second half, Andover came out in a press, which Deerfield handled calmly and efficiently. Though the second half was fought almost evenly, Deerfield’s halftime lead of 13 points allowed them to hold on for the win. As usual, Deerfield enjoyed balanced scoring from several players. Erika Ekhator led with 16 points, mostly earned on rebounds and put backs and from the free throw line (6 for 8 from the line). Felicia Renelus was outstanding on the boards and earned a double double with 13 rebounds and 13 points. Emma Reavis added 9 points, Megan Graves scored 7, and Lily Fauver put in 6. Deerfield is on the road next, traveling north to the New Hampton School on Wednesday.
