We took on the Avon “Blue” thirds team, an athletic and well-coached group. We found ourselves short-handed again (with only eight players suiting up for the second straight game) but were determined to work hard and play as a team. We got off to a good start, dictating play for the first few minutes, but as the game wore on they were able to gain advantage on both the offensive and defensive boards and translate that into some transition baskets. We went into the halftime break still fighting, down 21 – 12. Unfortunately we came out flat for the beginning of the second half with Avon getting 3 quick baskets and we were unable to get the game within reach after that. The team fought hard but Avon’s skill and muscle were too much. Darrel Dartey ’20 gets player of the game honors for his efforts on the day, playing smart defense and ferocious rebounding. Henry Renelus led our scorers (tied with two Avon players for game high score honors) with 10 points. Everyone gave it their all today, and we’re hoping to get healthy for the coming games as we head into the final weeks of the season.
