The Deerfield Girls Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Worcester on Wednesday to face the undefeated Worcester Academy Hilltoppers. Deerfield struggled to find offensive chances, and Worcester capitalized early and often. Despite a number of impressive saves and a strong effort from sophomore goalkeeper Erin DeMarco, DA ended the first half trailing 0-4. Deerfield opened the second half with more defensive energy, captained by senior Audrey McManemin, which led to more offensive opportunities on the other end. One of these chances came on a deep free kick from freshman Annabelle Gerber, which nailed the crossbar and was punted away. Worcester continued to capitalize on nearly all their chances, including a penalty kick late in the game. Final score: 0-7, Worcester Academy. The girls look forward to returning home this Saturday, 10/1, when they will face Pomfret at 4 PM. This game will be LIVE streamed, stay tuned for details.
