On a humid afternoon and amidst an ever-present threat of rain, Boys’ Varsity Soccer defeated a strong team from Vermont Academy. DA was surprised – but undaunted – when VA opened the scoring with a well-finished attack before the 10-minute mark of the first half. After a tentative start, DA took the game to the opposition for the remainder of the match. Fifteen minutes before half-time, striker Young Gun Lee ’18 rose high to meet a cross from the right flank from Spencer Rosen’18, burying the ball in the far left-hand corner of the opposition goal. Following the break, DA took hold of the game and never let go: two goals – and a signature goal celebration – from George Fair ’17 within the first 10 minutes of the second half put victory all but out of reach for VA. The DA back four had another very good afternoon, and goalkeeper Tim Gerber ‘17 had a fine performance between the pipes. The midfield met the challenge of slowing and containing the Vermont attack, and let very little pass through the center of the field. But perhaps the most exciting feature of the match was the desire to get forward and attack that was shown by every DA player. All in all, it was a good team effort against a very respectable Vermont team.
