On Wednesday, September 28th, the boys junior B soccer team travelled to the Eaglebrook School for the first of 3 games against the neighboring school this season. After some confusion about which field the game was happening on, the team finally arrived at the right place. The conditions were dry, but cloudy and cool with more than a hint of fall in the air. Deerfield opened the scoring quickly, with a shot from Justin Lui ’19 finding the back of the net in the first few minutes. From that point, there was a long scoring drought that lasted until late in the 2nd half. Although Deerfield controlled play and had several good opportunities, they were unable to add to the lead. Eaglebrook had a good opportunity at the beginning of the second half, but a save by Ethan Chen ’20 preserved the lead. With about 10 minutes to go in the second half, Noah Jung ’19 curled a beautiful free kick into the net, but it was ruled out because the kick was indirect and a second Deerfield player was unable to touch it before it went in. The last few minutes were tense, as Eaglebrook pressed forward to try and tie the game, but Deerfield responded with a flurry of 3 late goals by Joshua Fang ’19, John Chung ’20, and Elliot Flagg ’20 to finally secure a 4-0 win. Junior B will be back in action on Saturday, October 1 at 3 pm when they face Suffield Academy at home – incidentally, the teams only loss from last year.
