On a beautiful fall Saturday in September DA’s varsity FH team was ready to take on a historically strong Hotchkiss team, and energy ran high as the girls took to the field. From the first whistle it was apparent that we were going to have to work hard to get the ball down to our attacking end and keep it there, as Hotchkiss was stepping to every ball. Halfway into the first half DA began to find our momentum and put in an impressive offensive effort that caught the Bearcats on their heels. However, we were unable to find the back of the net before the half was over, keeping the score at 0-0. A few minutes into the second half, Hotchkiss scored a goal to bring the score to 1-0. A few minutes later, they netted another goal off of a play from the 25 yard line to bring the score to 2-0. Although the girls worked hard across the board, we were unable even out the score before time ran out. There were many strong individual performances, most notably from goalie Liv Mikesell ’20 who blocked shots from 4 consecutive corners, and Cornelia Mackay ’18 who was an incredibly solid force in the midfield.
