Varsity field hockey won a hard fought battle against Berkshire on Saturday. We couldn’t have asked for a better fall day to play field hockey, and the team came out hungry for their first win of the season. The first half was back and forth, with an aggressive and athletic Berkshire team stepping to every ball. Most of the play occurred in the midfield, and neither team was able to draw a corner. After regrouping during halftime and discussing what needed to be adjusted, the Deerfield team came out hungry to get a goal. DA worked more effectively as an offensive unit and put a lot of pressure on Berkshire’s defense. We were ultimately able to convert on a corner with about five minutes left in the game, as Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 tipped a strong hit on net from Maggie Roche ’19. Deerfield managed to hold Berkshire off for the last five minutes with an impressive defensive effort from Meaghan O’Brien ’18 and Livi Messina ’17. We look forward to facing Pomfret on our turf this Wednesday, September 21st at 3:30 pm.
