Playing our first home game in almost a month, Deerfield came out flying this afternoon against Cushing. We dominated the play from the drop of the puck, outshooting the visitors 35-10 and applying pressure in all three zones. Jenna Greenbaum ’17 and Meghan Halloran ’17 combined to open the scoring for the Big Green, moving the puck swiftly down the ice before Greenbaum put home the rebound off of a Halloran drive. We doubled our lead in the second period after a great play by Meaghan O’Brien ’18 kept the puck in the offensive zone. Margaret Williams ’19 then put a nice shot on net, and Taylor Morash ’16 drove hard to the crease and knocked in the rebound. Less than a minute later Isabel Perry ’16 got the puck to Shai Lineberry ’17 behind the net, who sent a beautiful feed out front that Greenbaum ripped into the goal for her second of the game. We were unable to add to our lead despite several excellent chances, but skated away with a well-deserved 3-0 victory. Jordan Manning ’19 made several solid saves in the third period to earn the first shutout of her Deerfield career. Next up is Hotchkiss at home on Saturday evening. Many thanks to the Yues for the soup, chips, dip, and drinks after the game!
