The Deerfield Girls JV hockey team traveled to Williston-Northampton School on Saturday to play the first game of our annual home and away rivalry. Both teams came out flying and the first period featured solid attack and strong defense from each team. The Big Green scored first on excellent combination passing by Meredith Heaney ’19, Bailey Cheetham ’19 and Katie Whalen ’18, but Williston bounced back on a rink-long rush by one of their quick defensemen. Though Deerfield took the lead early in the second period on a goal by Kate Hadley ’17, Williston again managed to tie the game on a power play just before the period ended. The third period opened with a goal for Williston on a low shot from the right point, but Deerfield came roaring back and scored five unanswered goals – three by Annie Ilsley ’18 – while Hollin Hanau ’18 held the fort in goal. The final score was DA 7, Williston 3.
