The boys varsity hockey team suffered their first loss of the season this Saturday on the road against Choate. However, the score doesn’t speak to how close the game really was. Entering the third period down three goals to none, the team regrouped during the second intermission and came out firing on all cylinders. Five minutes into the third period, the big green would break through when Senior Captain Justin Marler ’17 notched his first of the year on a blast from the point. Less than a minute later, Sophomore Sean McAvoy ‘19 would pull DA to within one. Just over a minute after our second goal, Senior Thomas Dale ‘17 tied the game when his wrist shot from the top of the right circle found its way through traffic and into the top left hand corner of the net. After rallying from three goals down to tie the game in a two-minute span, a couple of late penalties allowed Choate back into the game. Choate would score four goals in the remaining seven minutes, the final score being 7-3 for the hosts. Senior Goalie Sam Vigneault ‘17 played another great game and gave the visitors a chance to win by making the first save nearly every time. He made 36 saves on the night.
