Hockey, Boys: Varsity defeats Noble & Greenough (Flood Marr Tournament)

Event Details

An energetic Deerfield team came out ready to compete on Friday morning versus the hosts Noble and Greenough in the first game of the tournament. After a scoreless first period, the visiting side converted on a 2 v 1 rush when a pass from Junior Chris Camelio ‘18 was corralled by Senior Wiggle Kerbrat ‘17 who made no mistake finding the back of the net for his first goal of the season. A Big Green penalty early in the third would allow Nobles to tie the game at one goal apiece. The game wouldn’t stay tied for long as PG Chad Haggerty sniped his first of the tournament on a hard shot from the slot, assists going to fellow PGs Jon Donville ‘17 and Danny Farr ‘17. Less than two minutes later, the home team would find a way to get the equalizer, sending the game into overtime. With 3:38 remaining in overtime, a loose puck squirted out from behind the net and found the stick of Sophomore Sean McAvoy ‘19 who calmly put the puck over the goalies shoulder, giving DA a much needed victory and setting the tone for the remainder of the tournament. Final Score 3-2 in favor of the Big Green. Some incredible work between the pipes from Senior goalie Sam Vigneault ‘17 kept DA in the game and gave us a chance to win.
