The boys varsity hockey team skated to a 4-0 shutout over visiting NMH in the final home opener in the Barn. The big green notched their first goal of the game with 4:45 remaining in the first period when PG Chad Haggerty ’17 forced an NMH defenseman to turn the puck over to PG Danny Farr ‘17 who found Senior Harry Gahagan ’17 in the slot. Gahagan made no mistake, burying his second goal in as many games. The period would end with the home team leading 1-0. The big green got on the board again just 1:32 into the second when a well-executed power play allowed Sophomore Michael Holland ’19 to find Senior Thomas Dale ’17 wide open at the back door. After a number of quality scoring opportunities for NMH were turned away by Senior goalie Sam Vigneault ’17, DA would extend their lead on Dale’s second goal of the day. Shortly after, Haggerty ’17 would score the team’s third and final goal of the period off of a two on one rush with a great pass from Gahagan ’17. Unfortunately, the big green struggled to create any offense in the third period and were forced to play in their defensive zone for the majority of the period as NMH out shot the home team 12-4 in the final frame. The team would walk away with a 4-0 win and a 31 save shutout for Vigneault ’17.
The team returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Wallingford, CT to take on Choate at 6 PM.
