Deerfield JV headed up to Eaglebrook, minus two lines of our oldest players, to play in our first game on Wednesday. While younger and smaller than the Deerfield squad, the Eaglebrook team out skated the Deerfield squad in the first period, scoring first by taking advantage of some turnovers and sloppy play. The Deerfield team responded with some stronger play in the second period, as Punisa Lekovic scored two goals by using his size and strong shot to place Deerfield up by one after two. A turnover at the blue line on the power play allowed Eaglebrook to tie the game on a breakaway at the start of the third, but a Matt Brosseau ’19 rush led to Will Dale ’19 swatting in a rebound for the game winner. An empty net goal by Cam Snow ‘18, with an assist to Nate Baker ’19, sealed the game for Deerfield in the final minute. Deerfield benefited from strong goaltending by Andrew Peck ’18 and Colin ’19 in the victory. The team has plenty to work on – a lack of physical play, poor positioning, and turnovers, to name a few – and will hit the film room and the ice tomorrow in an effort to get on the right track. Weekend contests against the Springfield Rifles and archrival Choate provide the next tests.
