We saw three tough teams today in our annual mini-tournament round-robin. We first faced Loomis Chaffee who pulled out to a quick lead as once again we had a difficult time getting on the board in the opening minutes. But we climbed back in to the game with some tough defense, improved rebounding and some shots that started to fall. Down three with mere seconds to play, Rian Bogle ’19 drove to the top of the arc, drawing an extra defender and he smartly dished to Dylan Bane ’20 who knocked down the three to tie the game 20-20 at the buzzer. Given the tournament format, the game ended in a tie which given the way we had to crawl back into the game, felt more like a win. In the second matchup, we faced a Suffield Academy team that was big, fast and physical. Still recovering from the first game, we found ourselves down 2 – 20 early in the game. Although we regained a bit of composure, and played better in the last ten minutes, we never were able to really get back into the game. In the third game, we played the same Northfield Mount Hermon team we lost to on Wednesday by 31. We were able to play a much better defensively and the game stayed close all through the twenty minutes. Down by two in the last minutes we had multiple opportunities to tie the game up but couldn’t get any of our last shots to fall. All in all, it was a good day to improve our game. All twelve players got some good playing time and contributed to the team effort. Although not such a good day for wins, a good day to learn and improve. We are looking forward to two more days of practice and a last game before the winter break!
