After a mere three practices, the boys thirds basketball team opened their season against a perennially tough Northfield Mount Hermon team, losing the contest 19 – 50. We kept it close for the first few minutes, but the score became more lopsided as shots just wouldn’t fall in the first half, and we went into the half time down 4 – 21. A full court pressure defense early in the second half paid off with some quick turnovers, but the NMH team wore us down with some tough physical play on defense and on the offensive boards in particular, and we never found a way to close the gap. Rian Bogle ’19 and Henry Renelus ’20 led the team in scoring, both having 6 points each, and Carter Hampson ’20, Donnie Sparks ’18 and Josh Fang ’19 all put in big efforts to keep the opposition off the offensive and defensive boards. The team is looking forward to improving for the upcoming mini-tournament on Saturday.
