Offensive Outburst Leads Boys Varsity Soccer to Victory over Wilbraham and Monson
The boys varsity soccer team returned to their winning ways this afternoon with a 6-2 victory over visiting Wilbraham and Monson. From the very first whistle, the boys brought great energy to the match, creating two breakaways that were ultimately saved by the Wilbraham keeper. Despite dominating possession for the majority of the half, it wasn’t until the 17th minute that DA broke through. A streaking PG Luke Crimmins ‘17 was able to find the back of the net after beating his defender and firing the ball past the keeper, opening the floodgates for the big green. Shortly after, Senior George Fair ‘17 notched his 13th goal of the season after a great ball from 10th grader Jackson Pitcher ‘19 put him through on goal. The game went into the half with DA leading 2-0.
The second half opened up even more with both teams creating numerous scoring chances. A great finish from PG Angel Paes ‘17 extended the lead to three after fellow PGs Crimmins’17 and Chad Haggerty ’17 set him up at the edge of the 18-yard box. Shortly after however, Wilbraham worked their way back into the game with a goal of their own. Fair ‘17 then earned his second goal of the game by niftily chipping the ball over the keeper from 30 yards out. With DA extending their lead back to three goals, Wilbraham earned a PK that once again gave them life. But, for the second time in the half, the big green scored quickly following their opponents when Crimmins ’17 won a 50/50 ball at the half, out ran his opponent and found Haggerty ’17 all alone inside the 18. The final score of the day was also Pitcher’s ’19 first of his career. A beautiful corner from Paes ‘17 found the head of a streaking Pitcher ’19 who out jumped his opponent in the six-yard box.
The big green will travel to Williston Northampton on Saturday for a 3 PM kickoff.
