On Wednesday, November 2nd, the boys junior B soccer team hosted the Bement School varsity squad on the lower fields. Deerfield defeated Bement 2-1 earlier in the season and was looking to up their season record to 4-1 against local rivals Bement and Eaglebrook. It was a nice afternoon for soccer, with warmer temperatures than the previous few games. Much of the first half featured even play, with both teams having a few chances, but neither one controlling the run of play. In the 29th minute, Deerfield took the lead 1-0 on one of the goals of the year. Nic Labadan ’18 stole the ball at midfield, dribbled all the way down the right side, and struck a low shot past the Bement keeper. The lead would be short-lived, however, as Bement gathered a rebound in the 34th minute and tied the game 1-1 at half-time. Deerfield had the better chances in the second half, including a near miss by John Chung ’20 in the 41st minute, but neither team found the back of the net and the match ended in a 1-1 draw to make the team’s record 5-3-1. The junior B team returns to action on November 9th with an away game at Cushing Academy – the final game of the season.
