Deerfield hosted Cheshire this past weekend in their last home game of the season. It was a hard fought game, but DA did not come away victorious. Cheshire put pressure on Deerfield all day long. Cheshire’s skill players broke off some big runs and plays for early touchdowns to put them up in the first half. Deerfield hung in there with solid play from Jackson Caputo ’17 and Bubba Fairman ’17. Coming back on to the field after half time, the Big Green rallied to put up a few scores. The defense held strong with fearless play from Zykeem Sims ’17, Will Shuda ’17, and John Esposito ’17. Throughout the game and the entirety of the season, Deerfield’s offensive line has been a key cog in the operation. Captains Thomas Hale ’17 and Brandon Scott ’17 are supported by tireless efforts from Justin Massella ’17, Nate Chong ’17, Matt Donovan ’17, and Shane Graves ’17. This group has made big plays in every one of Deerfield’s games this season. Saturday against Cheshire they were able to drive the opposing D line back for many solid runs. They were also able to protect the pocket to help spring a few long plays as well. Ultimately Deerfield fell 21-41 to Cheshire, but the team showed grit and effort for the entire game. Deerfield enters this week an underdog against undefeated Choate. This is a great rivalry; look for Deerfield’s seniors to step up in their last Choate day wearing the Green and White.
