The day was picture perfect as the Deerfield girls took on NMH on Saturday and came away with a win over a very respectable Hoggers squad. Lead by 11th grader Erin Hudson 20:12 and 9th grader Victoria Patterson 20:12, the girls jumped to a commanding lead from the gun and never looked back. In third was Lilly Shuhda 20:31, followed by Nora Markey 7th 20:59, a most improved Helen Downes 8th 21:20, Sofi Sintes 9th 21:28, Erin Howe 10th 21:34, Captain Margot Genereux 12th 21:50, Sarah Jane O’Connor 13th 21:50, Ely Burke 17th 22:39, Hannah Swinerton 18th 22:40, Katie Morse 21st 23:27, Lily Horwitch 22nd 23:29, Anna Fu 24th 23:33, Mina Liang 25th 23:42, Penelope Hough 26th 23:45, Nafi Sall 31st 24:52, Niki Pelletier 34th 25:41, Jerilyn Zheng35th 25:52, Julia Angkeow 38th 33:51, and Gillian O’Connor 39th 33:51. As our last home meet it was also senior day so we took a moment after the race to recognize the seniors who have dedicated themselves to our team over the years, and especially our three captains, Hannah Swinerton, Madisen Siegel, and Margot Genereux; their leadership has been exemplary and they will all be dearly missed. This coming Saturday the girls head to Exeter, NH to take on the other twelve Division I New England Cross Country teams. It has been a long and fruitful rebuilding season for the Deerfield squad and the girls are looking forward to tackling an incredibly deep field at the championship.
