Deerfield’s opening game against Nobles came down to the last second. With an 8 point lead at the half and a 15 point lead with 13 minutes to go in the game, Deerfield looked ready to ride their first game to victory. However, Nobles fought hard and clawed their way back into the game, getting their first lead with 5 minutes remaining. A big three-pointer from Colman Shea returned the lead to Deerfield with just under a minute left, but Nobles responded on the other end. Down 2 points with time running out, Deerfield’s desperation shot at the buzzer did not fall, handing them a loss to start the season. Although they weren’t able to close out the game, they competed well and gave the awesome home crowd some real excitement for the season ahead. Deerfield’s scoring was led by Jackson Mannix ’17 and Billy Lahart ’17, with 6 other Big Green players putting some points in the scorebook as well.
