The Big Green traveled with the rest of the school to Andover on a rainy Saturday. As usual, Deerfield let neither the rain nor the bumpy field faze them: once the whistle blew, the Triumphs waged one of their toughest and most consistent battles over the course of the season. Deerfield was evenly matched with Andover for the entirety of the game, fighting for the ball up and down the field. The entire defensive unit of Sarah Wright ’20, Anna Harvey ’18, Chelsea Egu ’19, and Catalina Llorente ’19 worked particularly well together over the course of the match. Overall the team seems to have improved a great deal and gained the ability to truly utilize the sidelines, with the wing backs and wing midfielders connecting in order to generate a number of offensive opportunities for the forwards. The ball crossed the goalmouth multiple times, but the team was unable to translate this into a shot on goal. Andover got lucky with a goal towards the tail end of the game, despite a tremendous effort by keeper FJ Marsh ’19, who just missed a shutout.
Coming up on its last three games against Suffield, Loomis, and Choate, the team will build on its skills and work on learning how to finish when the ball comes across the goal.
