Two Second Half Goals Hurt the Big Green
On a warm Saturday afternoon that saw the ball skip smoothly across the surface thanks to some rain late Friday evening, the boys varsity soccer team dropped their third straight contest, losing 2-0 to Avon. Despite the loss, the team saw the return of PG’s Angle Paes ‘17 and Chad Haggerty ‘17 as well as senior Brian Davis ‘17 and junior Camden Kelleher ‘18. The first fifteen minutes of the game was some of the best soccer the team had played all season, moving quickly through the midfield and attacking down the flanks. The quality the Big Green showed early led to a number of scoring opportunities, including a break away for Junior Young Gun Lee ‘18, but the Avon goalie was up to the task.
The score was tied at zero going into the half and DA continued to create scoring opportunities early in the second. Unfortunately for the Big Green, a talented Avon striker snuck through the back line and tucked the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. Shortly after, Avon would earn their second and final goal of the afternoon. After senior keeper Tim Gerber ‘17 made four phenomenal saves, the ball somehow found the foot of an Avon striker sitting on the six who made no mistake finishing. The boys fought hard all afternoon but couldn’t find a way to sneak one past the Avon keeper.
We will travel to Simsbury, CT this Wednesday for a contest against Westminster.
