Strong Offensive Showing Leads Boys Soccer to Victory Over Westminster
On an unusually warm fall day with the sun shining bright in Simsbury, CT, the boys varsity soccer team came away with their fourth win of the season. Playing with only three defenders, DA planned on pushing forward and created numerous scoring opportunities right from the first whistle. The Westminster keeper made life difficult for the big green after turning away a couple of quality opportunities from inside the six. The most impressive of which started with an initial save on senior captain Brian Davis ’17 and then holding onto the rebound that was struck by junior Spencer Rosen ’18.
In the 43rd minute, after a great run from junior Peter Pulai ’18 put PG Angel Paes ’17 behind the Westminster defense, Angel was able to find the foot of senior George Fair ’17 who made no mistake, striking the ball into the upper right corner of the goal. The game went into the half with DA leading 1-0.
PG Chad Haggerty scored three minutes into the second half, scoring his first goal of the season after missing the first six games. Fair and Paes picked up the assists on the play as Haggerty was able to tuck the ball into the bottom left corner. Haggerty and Fair would each add another goal and the game would end in a 4-1 win.
The big green look to carry this momentum into Saturday’s match against Hotchkiss at home at 3:30 PM.
