On Saturday, October 15th, the boys junior B soccer team traveled to the Eaglebrook School for a match against their JV1 squad, probably the best team on the schedule. Since it was parent’s weekend for both schools, each team was eager for a win. The game took place on Eaglebrook’s primary soccer field and was played under beautiful fall conditions – sunny, dry and cool. Both teams had opportunities early, with Noah Jung ’19 just missing on a low shot in the 7th minute and EBS hitting the post in the 9th minute. Alexander Leong ’19 returned to the goal and made several great saves early, but EBS finally broke through with a goal in the 14th minute. Deerfield came right back, with Ethan Chen ’20 netting his first goal of the year in the 19th minute to tie the game. In the 30th minute, Justin Lui ’19 hit the post with a great shot, but Will Song ’20 was there to smash home the rebound for a 2-1 Deerfield lead at the half. Early in the 2nd half, EBS was awarded a penalty kick and tied the game at 2. EBS scored twice more, in the 50th and 65th minutes, to take a 4-2 lead, but Noah Jung ’19 cut the lead to one in the 68th minute. Despite a flurry of activity around the goal in the last few minutes, Deerfield was unable to tie the score and absorbed their first loss of the season, 4-3. The junior B team returns to action on October 22nd with a match at home against Eaglebrook’s JV2 team.
