On Wednesday, October 26th, the boys junior B soccer team hosted the JV2 team from Belmont Hill. The teams’ matchup last year resulted in a 3-3 tie, so Deerfield was eager for a better result this year. Typical of late October in New England, the weather was cold and blustery, although at least it was sunny. The game got off to a slow start, with neither team able to mount much of a challenge for the first 20 minutes. A scramble in front of the Deerfield net resulted in a Belmont Hill goal in the 22nd minute and the visitors were quickly able to go up 2-0 with another goal in the 23rd minute. The scored stayed 2-0 at halftime, but the Deerfield players were optimistic about the second half, with the wind at their backs. Deerfield pulled a goal back in the 41st minute when Justin Lui ’19 found the back of the net and tied the score at 2 with a John Chung ’20 goal in the 46th minute. Will Song ’20 gave the home team their first lead of the game with a goal in the 57th minute and excitement was high, after coming back from 2-0 down. Unfortunately, Belmont Hill scored in the 61st minute on a breakaway and in the 70th minute on a beautiful, long range shot to pull out a dramatic 4-3 victory. The junior B team returns to action on October 29th with a match on the road at Andover.
